What is RealTime?

In a nutshell, RealTime is a news alerts service that brings you information on any subject (medical, news, sport) you are interested in as soon as it is published on the internet.

The RealTime desktop alerts service brings together major web sites and allows you to ask to be notified via desktop alerts when a news item you are interested in is published. All you have to do is specify any subject you are interested in and install the desktop widget.

How do I get the best results from RealTime?

By default RealTime tries to make life easier for you. You just enter the search term that interests you and RealTime does all the hard work for you. After all, as the saying goes: you don't buy a dog and bark yourself. Sometimes though because RealTime goes off and scans every source he knows about that can get you a lot of information. Or sometimes even the wrong information!

For example if you were looking for information on the NHS you could simply enter health and then hit "Search the future". Now this would work and you would get plenty of new information on the NHS but you might find you were getting information on other health stories that weren't the related to the NHS. The best way to get around this is to select the actual category of websites you want to scan for new stories - in this case NHS! This is done using the advanced options under the main search box. Put a check in the Advanced Options check box and select NHS from the "Only send me information from this news source category:". Then subscribe as normal using the text box and the subscribe button.

If thats not specific enough for you can actually specify a sub category. For example cholesterol, then RealTime would only scan all the cholesterol web sites. If you really want to be specific you can select the exact feed you want to scan!

RealTime desktop alerts is as broad or as narrow as you want it to be!

Install and Forget

Simply subscribe to the topic you are interested in then just get on with whatever else you are doing. RealTime widget will bring it to you automatically. Remember: RealTime scans the worlds leading sources so you don't have to.

Delivered to your Desktop

As you probably have gathered by now all of the content is brought to you via a desktop alerts widget which is installed on your computer. It's a simple and safe process as it uses desktop alerts widget technology from Adobe.  Below is a image of the desktop alerts notification you will receive when a news item you have requested has been published. For example on a Windows XP machine the "toast" window appears by the system clock. It gradually disappears after a moment or two. Much like popular e-mail clients alert you when a new e-mail is received.

The benefit of getting your news alerts sent to your desktop is it is instant, it doesn't clutter up your e-mail box and it delivers all of the information direct you your desktop - nothing is blocked by spam filters or any other of the things that e-mails have to contend with. Desktop alerts are perfect for ensuring you get the information you want within moments of it becoming published. If you don't want to see it all the time, simply click the close box.

The RealTime desktop alerts widget requires administrative rights to install Adobe Air and Flash Player as well as the widget.  The system is a desktop alerts system so you are notified using an Adobe Air Widget which is installed on your computer the first time you subscribe. This is secure widget which will alert you as soon as a news item of interest appears!
