Conference on Pharmacy Prescribing in Primary and Secondary Care

A Practical Guide to Delivering Safe and Effective

Pharmacist Prescribing

For current and aspiring Pharmacist Prescribers in primary and secondary care practice

Tuesday 9 March 2010        76 Portland Place, London

Over 300 pharmacist independent prescribers are now qualified and registered in England. They may prescribe any licensed medicine for any medical condition that they are competent to treat. In addition, changes to regulations will soon enable pharmacist prescribers to prescribe controlled drugs independently. Pharmacist independent prescribing and supplementary prescribing are important steps towards increasing people’s access to medicines, making better use of pharmacists’ skills and helping to improve patient care.

The conference, chaired by Martin Stephens National Clinical Director for Hospital Pharmacy Department of Health, opens with a keynote presentation providing a national update on Pharmacist Prescribing, including the impact of Pharmacist Prescribing on delivering high quality, compassionate, safe and effective care and an update on prescribing controlled drugs.

You will then have the opportunity to hear two further update sessions on Supplementary Prescribing, including compiling Clinical Management Plans (CMPs) and Independent Prescribing, including good practice advice for Pharmacist Independent Prescribers. The conference also includes focused 'Pharmacist Prescribing in practice' case studies, where you will hear about medication reviews and adherence, Pharmacist Prescribing in clinics and Independent Prescribing in primary care addiction services..
